A 24-Hour Rite of Passage Experience for Boys Ages 13–17 and Their Mentors

In a world that often leaves young men to find their way alone, Youth Rites of Passage (YROP) offers a sacred invitation: a shared journey between a teenage boy and his father or mentor. This 24-hour experience is intentionally designed as a threshold moment—an opportunity to mark the movement from adolescence into deeper maturity through hands-on ritual, storytelling, reflection in nature, and the building of a ceremonial drum.

Together, boys and their mentors will enter a safe but challenging container to reflect on identity, values, and transformation. Held on the peaceful grounds of The DeSales Center in Brooklyn, Michigan, this gathering offers spaciousness, guidance, and the power of shared experience to open a path toward healthy masculinity.

Why a Drum?

Throughout history, sacred tools like the drum have helped people connect with their spirit, their ancestors, and their communities. During this rite, each boy and mentor will craft a personal drum—a process rich with metaphor and meaning. Every piece, from the wood slats to the drum skin, represents aspects of their own journey. As participants build their drums together, they are invited to build something deeper: trust, connection, and a shared commitment to growth.

No Experience Required

No woodworking skills are needed. The drum can be completed within a few hours and taken home to continue your journey. All materials and guidance are provided.

Registration & Details

• Dates: October 4–5, 2025

• Location: The Art Center, DeSales Center Grounds, Brooklyn, MI

• Time: Begins Saturday at 1 pm, concludes Sunday at 1 pm (Eastern Time)

• Cost: Registration fee includes all materials and meals. Scholarships are available—financial need should never be a barrier.

• Who Can Attend: Boys ages 13–17 accompanied by a father, grandfather, uncle, or trusted mentor
